Il grande tenore Enrico Caruso, icona della lirica e musica mondiale, vide i suoi natali nel febbraio 1873 nella sua Napoli. Genio teatrale dalla voce originale e potente che fece innamorare il mondo intero,portando anche la canzone classica napoletana oltreoceano. Oggi e’ ancora vivo il suo Mito,sono ancora raccontate le sue gesta dei tanti successi di tutti i teatri che lo ospitarono. Tutto ciò e’ raccontato in un museo tutto dedicato a lui, stranamente non nella sua Napoli, ma in Toscana.
Lastra a Signa (Fi),e’ il luogo dove tutto il materiale di documentazione raccolto in oltre 40 anni di devozione a Caruso, ha trovato la propria sede naturale ed è ospitato a Villa Caruso, già Villa Bellosguardo e ancor prima Villa Campi, la residenza che l’artista, dall’epoca della registrazione fonografica ad oggi, si era fatto sistemare per viverci con il soprano Ada Giacchetti di Firenze, madre dei suoi due figli. In collaborazione con il Comune di Lastra e con l ‘Associazione Pro Lastra . La raccolta espositiva comprende tutta l’area del primo piano di uno dei due corpi della villa cinquecentesca immersa in un meraviglioso parco dove Caruso aveva eletto la propria dimora.

La memoria del grande tenore è ancora vivissima in tutto il mondo e dal Paesi dell’Asia come dalle Due Americhe i visitatori faranno di Lastra a Signa una delle mete obbligate per onorare uno dei massimi eroi di quel teatro dell’opera che resta l’unica arte originale che la civiltà italiana abbia creato e donato al resto del mondo.
